Shanti's Junkyard employees pose for a pic
Tonight we attended a St. Francis halloween party. The invitation stated that costumes for the dogs were mandatory and for the people encouraged. So Wes came up with the idea to dress up Shanti as a junk yard dog. Since the name Shanti means "peace" and he is such a sweet dog, Wes thought that it would be fun to make him something completely opposite than what he is. Shanti donned a torn up v-neck white t-shirt that had "Shanti's Junkyard" (a logo we made up) on his back along with a yellow sheriff's badge on each shoulder that read "chief of security". Mark made him a spiked collar and then I found a big plastic chain that looked like a heavy duty old rusted chain. We used the chain for his leash. We then decided that Wes would go in costume as well. We found an old work shirt of his that had his name embroidered on it. Opposite his name we gave him the logo that read "Co-owner" below it. Wes also had a "Beware of Dog" sign attached to the back of his wheel chair. Cat and I decided to get in on the action, too. We wore matching polo shirts that had our names on one side with the logo on the other. However under our logo it read "Assistant Manager". To complete the look, I brushed some dark powdered foundation onto our shirts which made it look like they had dirt or rust on them. The entire costume set looked pretty good and it was fun going as a team.

Wes looks on as Shanti has his paw read.

Shanti with the "paw reader"
The party itself was really nice. Shanti was really excited to see many of his old buddies. We also got to meet Steven, who trained Shanti as a pup. It was really nice to meet yet another person who helped form Shanti into who he is today. After the initial excitement he layed under the table and napped while we enjoyed a delicious pot-luck dinner. There were goody bags for the dogs as favors. After dinner, if they chose, the dogs could stop by and visit the gypsy to have their paws read. Shanti's fortune was one of a long life and lots of love. It can't get any better than that! Happy Halloween from Shanti and us!
